Action over agitation
The 2024 United States elections will be awful, and I’m not letting myself get sucked in again.
A public proclamation! Because if I say it in public, maybe I’ll be able to stick to it.
This year, I am not going to get sucked into the US presidential elections.
I care about people. I want people to be happy. To me, happiness is the ability to enjoy the ‘now,’ and the last couple of elections have taught me that the ‘now’ becomes a lot less enjoyable when an unmitigated political shit-show is in progress. US national politics is theater. It’s madness.
And it turns out it is 100% safe for me to opt out. In a world where my choices are between the right and the far right, I simultaneously know which party I will vote for and realize that neither party actually represents what I want.
And so, already knowing what I will vote for means that I don’t need the data stream in real time. It turns out it’s all just stress and drama for the sake of stress and drama.
… So, instead, I’m going to pay attention to what’s happening locally. Because goodness, there’s a lot to do right outside my window. Here’s a start.
